The Artistic Realm of Elleni Regulus

For those who know her, the name Elleni Regulus could be translated as: “Be Brave!” This is the message Elleni conveys to us daily and demonstrates through her life: the courage to step into the new, both in the world and within oneself, to recognize and make the best use of one’s own abilities.

Human beings are not one-dimensional, and Elleni’s personality and the diverse activities through which she expresses herself prove just that; Elleni is a mother of three children, a wife, a biker, a hiker, a yoga instructor, an Ayurvedic therapist, and an artist who expresses herself through painting and sculpture.

She is a person who is interested in the Human Being—specifically, the human body and soul. In all the activities she has been involved in, Elleni works on understanding the human being on a physical, emotional, and psychological level, delving into the Inner Self, discovery, and healing.

In order to understand and grasp Elleni’s art, we must first examine her personality. And she best expressed her personality in the words: “I see people for who they can become.” This is her approach, which guides her not only in personal relationships but also in her art.

In her opinion, people are good, but they can always be better; they just need to be encouraged to feel their higher, divine nature, to recognize the potential of their body and soul, and to help them articulate their emotions, feel their bodies, and connect to the cosmos and themselves through their breath.

Elleni has done all of this over the years, through various forms of therapy, yoga, and Ayurveda, and today, she offers her emotions through her art, allowing the viewer to accept and recognize them as their own.

She uses different techniques and materials, working with plaster, clay, oil, and acrylic paints. Among her works, sculptures and abstract paintings stand out.

The primary motif in her sculptures is the Woman. Elleni portrays individual women, among the hundreds of faces of women—goddesses, mothers, ballerinas, workers, poets, and fatal women. They are shy, mysterious, confident, brave, friendly, and solitary.

Elleni offers us different perceptions of women, but above all, as an admirer not only of their beauty but of their essence: this is a woman who inspires, moves, creates, and works magic. In her depictions, she is direct and does not objectify the female body by depicting it naked; her women are clothed, as clothing also points to certain dimensions of personality and the expression of the Inner Self.

Elleni’s women are not objects of worship, at least not at first glance. Through her portrayals, Elleni asks us questions: What are all the faces of a woman? What does she hide within her that either manifests or perhaps never manifests? Does the position of women in a world where everything is transforming and being redefined change? Will a woman’s position and role in society remain the same, or will they change? Will this affect her emotions, psyche, and spirit?

Or, will women always be, as in her sculptures, new, modern, different, yet, in essence, primal, as they have been since the beginning of the world?

In her paintings, Elleni resonates with both her own and our emotions. The paintings are abstract, in vibrant colors, reflecting her feelings and psychological states, which we as viewers recognize as our own; they captivate with light, color, brightness, and life optimism.

Through her art, Elleni asks not who others are, but more importantly, “Who am I?” In exploring herself, she comes to understand others. In the viewer, the reverse process occurs: by looking at her paintings, through her spirit, we become aware of our own, recognizing our kinship. In response to her invitation, expressed through color and light in her paintings, we, as people who understand each other, form a shared experience of art, making us friends.

Her artworks are geographical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual maps of her life, experiences, and reflections.

Elleni’s home is the entire world, yet she has emerged from the lands of Hungary, Serbia, and Croatia, carrying within her the landscapes, emotions, and mental energy of this region, and above all, an immense will.

Gentle yet strict, Elleni conducts herself honorably in every aspect of her work, through raising children, singing, yoga, therapies, and art. This is why everything she does is effective and positively influences individuals who encounter her or are part of her inner circle, whether family or friends.

Elleni is slowly building her identity and recognition, growing and developing, just as the consumers of her paintings and sculptures grow and evolve, enjoying her art.
